I liked that shovel. I probably shot it in about 30 different positions and places :)

george: I like this one a lot.
Kat: thanks
george: you're welcome.
kait: This is neat!
kétie: i too adore this one.
Blake: Ooooh, this strikes me as a very mature photo. It's like, at first, you're struck by the abstract qualities - colors, shapes, arrangement, etc. Then once you break through the initial impression, the subject matter itself really has an effect, like nostalgia or place or "something was once done here" on account of the shovel and the flat sand (was there a castle that was made but isn't there anymore?..)

And really, I guess that's the hallmark of a good photo. Neglect the subject matter and you should still have a photo with good elements of composition and design. Neglect the elements of design and you should still be left with a subject matter that is compelling. Well done!
Kat: Thanks Blake. I played around with this one a lot, especially. I took it from a bunch of angles, and placed the shovel in a lot of places. This was my favorite.
